Demand keeps county's lone asphalt plant busy

Two balloon lights stuck out of the Caterpillar paver like alien antennas lighting the way for the Maymead road crew as it prepared for the long night ahead.

Southbound traffic on Interstate 77 between mile markers 44 and 43 had finally unclogged and was trickling toward Troutman when foreman Tom Dickens flipped his cell phone up.
